Delhi: 'Body shaming' claims life of 22-year-old aspiring fashion designer
Investigations by police officials revealed she had accessed videos on internet that discussed how to stay happy, how to hang yourself to death.
New Delhi: ‘Body shaming’ led to the death of an aspiring fashion designer in the national capital on Friday morning.
Priyanka Gupta was distressed and depressed for not being able to put on enough weight that eventually forced her to take the extreme step of ending her life.
The 22-year-old committed suicide by hanging herself at her two-room residence in Mandawali area of East Delhi.
Investigations by police officials revealed she had accessed videos on internet that discussed how to stay happy, how to hang yourself to death.
Her one-page suicide note mentioned that she was caged in a body that insulted her at juncture of life. She concluded her note with ‘Love you Mom; followed by a smiley.
Media reports say Priyanka was academically bright but could not land herself a full-time job as a fashion designer despite taking up internships at several fashion firms. Her father had passed away couple of years ago.
Priyanka was found hanging by her mother who with the help of neighbours took her to a nearby hospital. However, she was declared dead upon arrival. Her family has not suspected any foul play into the incident.
A case has been registered by the police.
