BJP attacks Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for observing 'fast post breakfast'

"Congress leaders have called the public for observing fast at Rajghat, but they are having Chhole Bhature at a restaurant," Delhi BJP leader Harish Khurana wrote on his Twitter page

New Delhi: BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra on Monday attacked Rahul Gandhi and other Congress party leaders for observing fast but relishing 'chhole bhature' prior to that in the national capital. Patra said the viral photo of Congress leaders eating chhole bhature in the morning reflects the double standards of the party which has staged a dharna-cum-fast expressing solidarity with Dalits. "These people can't even wake up in the morning to fast...100 Bhature Khake Rahul Chale Upvas Karne," Patra took a a jab at the Congress President. "This is not hunger for chhole bhature, but hunger for power. Thankfully they came in the same wardrobe from the restaurant to the fast venue or else they would have claimed the picture is a year old. In their own bastion at Rajghat, Rahul Gandhi is ridiculing Mahatama Gandhi ," he added. The controversy over the viral photo erupted in the morning when Delhi BJP leader Harish Khurana tweeted a photo of Congress leaders eating 'chhole bhature' at a restaurant in Delhi before sitting on a protest and observing fast at Rajghat over atrocities on Dalits. Clarifying about it, Congress leader AS Lovely said, "photograph is of before 8 am, this is symbolic fast from 10.30 am to 4.30pm,it is not indefinite hunger strike. This is what is wrong with these(BJP) people, instead of properly running the country, they concentrate on what we eat." Congress party workers are holding a day-long fast at their state and district headquarters to promote communal harmony and peace and to protest against the BJP government. Party president Rahul Gandhi, at Raj Ghat here, led the protest against the government's alleged failure to discuss key issues like the multi-crore Punjab National Bank scam, the CBSE exam paper leaks,  Cauvery issue and among others.
