Covid-19: Punjab To Allow Only Fully Vaccinated People In Public Places From Jan 15

Punjab on Covid19: The Punjab government has decided to restrict the entry of unvaccinated individuals to public places.

New Delhi: Taking a cue from Haryana, the Punjab government has decided to restrict the entry of unvaccinated individuals to public places from January 15 in view of rising cases of the Omicron Covid-19 variant.

Earlier in the day, Punjab deputy Chief Minister OP Soni said the government had no plans to impose a night curfew in view of rising Omicron cases. He said there were no active Omicron cases in Punjab presently, ANI reported.

Last week, the Haryana government announced that people who were not fully vaccinated against Covid-19 would not be allowed to enter malls, restaurants, banks and other public areas in the state from January 1.

The order said that no one, including employees, would be allowed to enter government offices without being completely vaccinated.

The Chandigarh administration has also banned the entry of unvaccinated individuals to public places, hotels, banks and government offices from January 1.

An order issued by the UT administration said that people who have not received both their vaccine doses should refrain from visiting "public places, markets, functions, public transports and religious places until they are fully vaccinated". As per the new order, violators of guidelines will be fined Rs 500.

On Monday, Punjab reported 46 fresh cases of Covid-19, taking the infection tally to 6,04,279. One Covid-related fatality was reported in Ludhiana district, PTI reported.

On the other hand, the Union Territory Chandigarh reported seven Covid-19 cases, taking the total count to 65,781.
