The meeting comes amid the rising number of covid-19 cases as India reported 2,47,417 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours. India's active caseload has jumped to 11,17,531 which constitutes 3.08 percent of the country's total positive cases.

This will be PM Modi's first interaction with Chief Ministers on the Covid-19 situation after the third wave, fueled by the Omicron outbreak, gripped the nation.

The Prime Minister has held several rounds of discussions with CMs of states and UTs during the first and second waves of Coronavirus.

The recent surge in Covid cases in India has once again put several states on high alert with strict curbs and night curfews being reimposed to contain the spread of the contagious virus.

Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi held a high-level review meeting with his Cabinet colleagues and top officials. During the meeting, it was decided that the PM will virtually meet CMs to discuss "state-specific scenarios, best-practices, and the public health response".
