IIT Kanpur Professor Predicts Covid Resurgence With 15,000-20,000 Daily Cases In India
Professor Manindra Aggarwal of IIT-K stated that the number of new cases can reach up to 20,000 in the next two months, as was seen during the initial waves in July last year.
Amid rising cases of Covid-19 in India, Professor Manindra Aggarwal of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kanpur has made a prediction, stting the alarm bells off. He said 15,000-20,000 cases will come to the fore every day in the coming two months. The professor, in a conversation with ABP Live on Thursday, said that this disease cannot be seen as seasonal, and the current module which tracks the increasing cases of Covid-19 is not able to do so properly.
According to Aggarwal, getting 4,000-5,000 cases daily in a country like India is very less. According to his estimates, this number is rapidly increasing. The professor stated that the number of new cases can reach up to 20,000 in the next two months, as was seen during the initial waves in July last year.
While discussing the vaccination process in the country, Aggarwal said that most of the people in India have been vaccinated or infected with the virus once, and a level of immunity has been created. Whenever someone gets infected, it will not be very effective. There will be a peak in cases, but it cannot be called a wave. He added that even if the cases increase, the situation will not be more dangerous, as most of the patients are recovering at home.
Currently, the number of infected people in India has increased to 4,47,39,054, with 5,335 new cases of Covid-19 being reported in the last 24 hours. This is the maximum number of daily cases reported in the last 195 days, and the number of patients under treatment has increased to 25,587.
Aggarwal urged people to wear masks while going to crowded areas and to take care of their health. According to the population of India, even if 20,000 cases come to the fore daily, it will not have much effect.
As India braces for a potential surge in Covid-19 cases, experts and officials continue to emphasize the importance of following Covid-appropriate behaviour, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing, to avoid another devastating wave of infections.
