Kolkata Police Seeks Iconic Eden Gardens Under Galleries To Set Up Quarantine Facility Amid Covid-19 Crisis

It is to be noted that the number of Coronavirus cases in West Bengal has been hitting highs over the past few days.

Kolkata: In the wake of significant rise in the number of Coronavirus cases, the Kolkata Police has requested The Cricket Association of Bengal to make use of under galleries for makeshift quarantine facility for Police Personnel on urgent basis. ALSO READ | Coronavirus Vaccine Not Possible Before 2021, Govt Officials Tell Parliamentary Panel The CAB officials and police personnel held a meeting at  Lal Bazaar and thereafter a joint inspection was undertaken at Eden Gardens. According to the sources, CAB Officials Avishek Dalmiya (President, CAB) And Snehasish Ganguly (Secretary, CAB) were present during the inspection. During the discussion, it was agreed that under galleries of E, F, G and H blocks would be used to set up such facilities. In case, more space is required, then J block might also be used. Such areas would be thoroughly segregated as a safety measure. Since, the Administrative functioning majorly happens at Club House, adjacent blocks (B, C, D, K and L) would not be used for it, allowing the Association to use them for conducting its activities and / or for its administrative works. It is to be noted that the CAB headquarters was completely shut on Sunday for about a week after a non-permanent staff of the iconic Eden Gardens ground was found to be infected with the deadly Coronavirus. Meanwhile, the number of Coronavirus cases in West Bengal and its capital Kilkata has been hitting highs over the past few days. The state has recorded a total of 25,911 cases of COVID-19 till date with death tally standing at 854. Of the total infected cases, over 16,826 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
