India Witnesses Marginal Surge In Covid Cases, Clocks 16,156 Infections In Last 24 Hrs

Corona cases Update: After registering less than 15,000 coronavirus cases for the past few days, India has recorded 16,156 new cases in the last 24 hours. According to the health bulletin released by the Union Health Ministry, the country registered 733 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Kerala
In an uptick in daily fresh infections, Kerala on Wednesday recorded 9,445 new coronavirus cases and 622 related deaths which raised the caseload to 49,29,397 and toll to 29,977, mentioned a PTI report. The state had registered over 7000 cases yesterday.
Of the 622 deaths, 93 were reported in the last few days, 330 were those which were not confirmed until June 18 last year due to lack of adequate documentation, and 199 were designated as COVID deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and Supreme Court directions, a state government release said.
With 6,723 more people recovering from the virus since Tuesday, the total recoveries touched 48,31,468 and the active cases dropped to 76,554, the release said.
The health bulletin also said that 82,689 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
Among the 14 districts, Ernakulam recorded the highest with 1,517 cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (1,284), Kozhikode (961) and Thrissur (952).
Maharashtra
Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 1,485 new coronavirus cases and 38 fatalities, according to the state health bulletin.
After the daily rise in cases, the overall tally surged to 66,06,536 and death toll reached 1,40,098.
The state now has 19,480 active patients while 1,72,600 people are in-home quarantine and 933 in institutional quarantine.
On Tuesday, Maharashtra had logged 1,201 new coronavirus cases and 32 fatalities.
As many as 2,536 patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recoveries to 64,43,342.
Maharashtra's case recovery rate now stands at 97.53 per cent while the fatality rate is 2.12 per cent.
Mumbai reported the highest 417 new infections (besides four deaths), followed by Ahmednagar district with 149 new cases.
