Congress Calls BJP 'Anti-Dalit' After Capt Amarinder Meets Amit Shah Amid Punjab Fiasco

Congress leader, Randeep Surjewala slams BJP for being anti-Dalit and anti-farmer. Interestingly the tweets come after Captain Amarinder's meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah.

New Delhi: Indian National Congress, General Secretary, Randeep Surjewala took to Twitter on Wednesday referred to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's residence as a centre for "anti-Dalit" politics. He also criticized the Centre for not resolving the Farmer's Agitation.

In one of his two tweets, Randeep Singh Surjewala wrote, "The arrogance of those sitting in power has been hurt. Because a Dalit has been appointed as the chief minister [in Punjab], they ask who is making the decision in the Congress."

"They [BJP] do not like that a Dalit has been appointed to the top post," Surjewala added.

After Captain Amarinder Singh's resignation, Charanjit Singh Channi, a Dalit, was selected to be the next Chief Minister of Punjab.

He further said, "The centre of anti-Dalit politics is no other than the residence of Amit Shah ji."

In his second tweet, Randeep Singh Surjewala said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah are "burning in the fire of exacting revenge from Punjab".

"They want to exact revenge from Punjab because they have been unable to look after the interests of their friends in the business community through the anti-farmer black laws," he wrote.

Surjewala added, "BJP's anti-farmer conspiracy will not be successful."

The Congress Secretary's tweets came after former state CM Captain Amarinder Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in the national capital. The meeting further fueled speculations of the former joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

After his 45-minute long meeting with BJP leader, Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted: "Met Union Home Minister Amit Shahji in Delhi. Discussed the prolonged farmers' agitation against #FarmLaws & urged him to resolve the crisis urgently with the repeal of the laws & guarantee MSP, besides supporting Punjab in crop diversification. #NoFarmersNoFood
