CJI Raps SCBA Prez For Petition Seeking Suo Motu Review Of Electoral Bonds Case Judgement— WATCH

CJI Chandrachud rebuked SCBA President Advocate Adish Aggarwala for his petition seeking suo motu review in the Electoral Bonds case judgement.

The Supreme Court's hearing on the electoral bonds case, held on Monday, took a dramatic turn after the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud rebuked the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate Adish Aggarwala for his petition seeking suo motu review in the Electoral Bonds case judgement.

In the video, Aggarwala can be seen making multiple mentions of his petition in front of the bench to which CJI Chandrachud replies: "Mr Aggarwala, apart from being a senior counsel, you are the President of the SCBA...you have already written to me. This is all publicity-oriented and we will not permit it. Please keep it at that, otherwise I will have to say something more which might be distasteful".

Aggarwala had filed a petition seeking suo motu review of the Electoral Bonds judgement.

The hearing was held as the Supreme Court sought a reply from the State Bank of India regarding why it had not fully disclosed the electoral bond numbers. Apart from CJI Chandrachud, the five-judge bench constituted Justices BR Gavai, JB Pardiwala, Sanjiv Khanna, and Manoj Mishra.

During the same hearing, CJI Chandrachud also rebuked Advocate Mathews Nedampura for interfering in the case.

The situation escalated after Nedampura stated that the judgment in the Electoral bonds case was delivered behind the backs of the citizens. He stated that the case "was not a justiciable issue at all. This was a policy matter and not for the courts to get into. That is why people feel this judgment was given behind their back," NDTV quoted Nedampura saying.

"Do not shout at me!" CJI DY Chandrachud told Advocate Nedumpara after he continued to talk over the justices in a raised tone.

Justice BR Gavai also told Nedampura that he was obstructing the process of administration of justice.

The apex court has now directed the SBI to make a complete disclosure of all details related to electoral bonds by March 21.
