India-China Second Informal Summit: PM Modi-Xi Jinping To Meet In Chennai On Oct 11-12, Likely To Discuss Terrorism

It said the forthcoming Chennai Informal Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance.

New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit India from October 11 to 12 for the second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the External Affairs Ministry announced on Wednesday. He will be accompanied by China's Foreign Minister and Politburo members. "At the invitation of the Prime Minister, the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping will be visiting Chennai, India from October 11-12, 2019 for the 2nd Informal Summit," the ministry said. It is said the forthcoming Chennai Informal Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance. PM Narendra Modi will hold one-to-one and delegation-level talks with the Chinese President. Meeting between them has no specific agenda. The focus of the meeting is on improving people to people contact and on how to maintain peace and tranquility on the India-China border. Meanwhile, terrorism, terror funding/support/sourcing likely to come up during talks. According to sources, since it is an informal meeting, no agreements, Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs), joint communique is expected to be signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India. The summit will be held in the coastal town of Mamallapuram. During the summit the two countries will exchange views on deepening India-China Closer Development Partnership, the ministry said.
