Chhattisgarh: Woman 'Tied Up', 'Gangraped' At Healthcare Centre, Minor Among Four Accused

The incident took place when the woman, belonging to a tribal community, was alone at the health care centre as everyone else was off for Diwali

New Delhi: A 32-year-old health worker was allegedly tied up and gangraped by four people, including a 17-year-old minor in Chhattisgarh. Two of the accused have been arrested while the minor has been detained. Efforts are underway to nab the absconding person.

According to a report by news agency ANI, the incident happened at a health care centre in Chhipchhipi village in Mahendragarh district on Friday.

According to Dipak Saini, Station House Officer (SHO), Jhagrakhand, the incident took place when the woman, belonging to a tribal community, was alone at the health care centre as everyone else was off for Diwali, when the minor and three of his associates barged in.

As per the FIR, the accused allegedly tied the woman up with a rope and then raped her in turns. Police said that the four accused recorded a video of the act and threatened to kill her if she called the police.

However, as soon as she arrived at her house, she told her parents about the incident and the next morning, her parents took her to the police station where she lodged a complaint based on which an FIR was registered.

According to news agency PTI, the four have been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code, the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities Act), the Arms Act, and the Information Technology Act.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a protest outside the police station against Chhattisgarh’s Bhupesh Bhagel-led government. They demanded swift and stringent action against the accused.

"The BJP is doing politics. Strict action has already been taken against the accused,” a report by NDTV quoted Manendragarh's Congress MLA Vinay Jaiswal as saying.
