Chandigarh: Miscreants Open Fire At Cops In Sector 38, Search Underway To Nab Absconding Accused

On Thursday night in Chandigarh, a car broke through a barricade and fired at police, after being asked to stop. In response, police also fired back.

Ahead of heightened security on the eve of Republic Day, a car driver broke a police barricade and opened fire on the policemen in Sector 38 of Chandigarh on Thursday night.

The police also fired a shot at the car that broke the barricade. According to the details, the car had Ludhiana registration number and two people were riding in it.

Actually, the police had asked the car passing through the barricade to stop, but instead of stopping, the driver went ahead. After going a few meters away, the driver stopped the car, from which a man came out. Constable Pradeep, who was chasing the car, caught the person who came out. After this, the car driver brought the car back and tried to run over Constable Pradeep.

However, the patrolling team of the District Crime Cell also reached the spot. When Constable Pradeep tried to catch the car driver, he opened fire on both the policemen and both the accused fled with their car from there.

It is being told that on Thursday night, a white Maruti car rider had fired at the police. In view of Republic Day, Thana 39 police had put up a blockade outside a colony in Sector 38A. Then a car came at a high speed and tried to break the blockade. The policeman got suspicious and signaled the car to stop. However, the driver sped away with the car.

After going a little further, a person came out of the car, who was caught by the policeman, but it was a trap. In the meantime, the car driver started firing at the policeman and freed his companion and took him away.

The police have found in the investigation that the white Maruti car, in which the accused came and fled, was taken in the name of Jyoti Verma, a woman from Ludhiana. Now a police team will go to Ludhiana and interrogate Jyoti Verma.
