CAUTION: HRD Minister Smriti Irani has a ‘message’ for haters
New Delhi: In lieu of the massive public criticism, post war of words with Bihar’s education Minister Ashok Choudhary, HRD minister Smriti Irani has now taken up a new public forum in her defence.
“As those who scream murder and whip themselves up into a feminist frenzy at the drop of a hat tried to ‘endear’ themselves to me on Twitter, I reflected on the near ‘Jerry Maguire’ like moment that was upon me.”
Irani in her Facebook post referred to her childhood saying “when she was younger, people would tell girls not to respond when hailed by a man, no matter how humiliated they felt”.
"But there would be those rebellious kinds (yours truly included), who would question why? Why not respond? Why zip it?”.
Smriti also explained why she got offended because of Bihar Minister’s tweet, by making a reference to her social background saying she “grew up in a middle class environment and not in the posh lanes of Lutyen’s zone (Central Delhi).
Smriti also made a mention of a long list of her accomplishments, listing most of them as “first time evers”
“You achieve so much after putting in so much of hard work yet some “intellectuals” say “anpad” the minute you are given the opportunity to serve as HRD Minister, said Smriti.
The 40-year-old ‘experienced’ minister also gave an advice to the women of the country saying, “So to those girls walking with their heads down, look up and speak up”.
After talking at length about her journey so far, Smriti in the end sarcastically signed off as “Aunty National”.
