BSF Foils Attempt To Smuggle Contraband, Arms By Pakistani Drone In Punjab’s Gurdaspur

As per the statement by BSF, four China-made pistols, eight magazines were recovered and 47 live rounds were dropped by the smugglers.

New Delhi: The Border Security Force on intervening nights of January 17 and 18 foiled an attempt by a Pakistani drone to smuggle contraband and arms into Indian territory at Uncha Takala village in Punjab’s Gurdaspur, reported news agency ANI. As per the statement by BSF, four China-made pistols, eight magazines were recovered  and 47 live rounds were dropped by the smugglers.

“On the intervening foggy night of 17-18 Jan 2023, Border Security Force foiled the nefarious design of smugglers to smuggle contraband & recovered 4 China-made pistols, 8 magazines and 47 live rounds dropped by a Pakistani drone in Uncha Takala village in Punjab's Gurdaspur,’ the BSF said.

In October last year, the BSF troops had shot down a drone entering India from Pakistan’s side along the International Border in Punjab’s Gurdaspur sector, after which a massive search operation was launched by the security forces.

In September also, the security force had foiled a drone intrusion attempt from Pakistan after a drone was spotted near the International Border in Gurdaspur.  The attempt of intrusion was foiled after jawans fired several rounds of bullets and forced it to retract its position by moving back to the Pakistani side.

Earlier in July, a similar Pakistani drone infiltration bid was foiled by the BSF after it was spotted near the International Border in the Kanachak sector of Jammu and Kashmir, according to a PTI report.

Since the past few months, incidents of drone sightings near the border areas of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed an increase. These Pakistani drones are mostly used to drop drugs and weapons inside the Indian territory in a bid to support terrorism. However, the security forces have succeeded in safeguarding the border areas with their alertness and foiling any such plans of infiltration by terrorists.
