Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with more than 150 startups as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, a week-long event, "Celebrating Innovation Ecosystem". According to Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the event is being hosted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, from January 10 to 16. The event marks the 6th anniversary of the launch of the Startup India initiative.
In other news, Samajwadi Party made headlines on Friday as many BJP MLAs and ministers joined the SP fold just days before the first phase of the election in Uttar Pradesh.
A huge crowd gathered during the inclusion of several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including former Uttar Pradesh minister Swami Prasad Maurya, into the Samajwadi Party ahead of the assembly elections. A case was filed under the Epidemic Act for allegedly violating the model code of conduct and Covid-19 protocol as a huge crowd gathered at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on Friday.
Moreover, people celebrated Makar Sankranti on Friday. A large number of people gathered at the Gorakhnath Temple to offer 'Khichdi' on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Other than that, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found in an unattended bag in East Delhi's Ghazipur flower market on Friday, triggering panic among the people. The IED was laetr defused.
Delhi Police said they received information about the unattended bag at around 10:30 am on Friday after which one fire engine was rushed to the spot.
Jharkhand Extends Covid-19 Restrictions Till Jan 31
The Jharkhand government on Saturday extended the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in the state till January 31, Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh told news agency PTI.
Under the existing restrictions, which are in place since January 3, educational institutions will remain closed, and bars and restaurants and other business establishments shall down their shutters after 8 pm, while a maximum of 100 people will be allowed to attend events such as weddings and funerals.
ATS Lawyers To Be Present At Malegaon Blast Trial: Maharashtra Govt
Noting that prosecution witnesses in the 2008 Malegaon blast case are turning hostile, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil on Saturday said the lawyers of the state ATS would attend the ongoing trial before the special NIA court.
Recently some witnesses have turned hostile we will have our lawyers present in the court during the hearing from now on, Walse-Patil told reporters.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a pet crematorium in 2500 square feet space in Dahisar, Mumbai in the budget. "There was no crematorium for pets in Mumbai. This initiative is for the animals who can't speak for themselves," said Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar.
