After Mumbai Airport, Nagpur-Kolkata Flight Gets Bomb Threat

The series of bomb threats on flights refuse to abate, with the fresh threat issued to a Nagpur-Kolkata aircraft. The plane had to be diverted to Raipur for an emergency landing due to the threat.

The series of bomb threats on flights continued on Thursday. A flight from Nagpur to Kolkata had to make an emergency landing at Raipur airport in Chhattisgarh following a bomb threat. The plane was taken to an isolated bay at the airport for checks. An investigation is underway.

Soon after the aircraft made the emergency landing at Raipur airport, the flyers were evacuated and the plane was searched thoroughly. The entire operation took about 40 minutes.

According to a report by news agency PTI, a passenger was detained after the incident. According to the primary information, aircraft crew members were informed by a passenger about the bomb when the flight was mid-air.

Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh said the aircraft deviated immediately after the Air Traffic Control was informed.  And, upon landing, it was immediately rushed to the isolation bay for mandatory security checks. The team of police and a bomb squad reached the airport. After landing, the aircraft and passengers' luggage were thoroughly checked, Singh added.

"After complete inspection, the bomb threat was found to be a hoax. The passenger who had informed about the bomb was detained and is being questioned," the police official added. The airport officials later confirmed that the flight departed for Kolkata around 12 noon.

On Wednesday, the Mumbai airport had received a bomb threat. The caller told the CISF control room that a person named "Mohammad" was carrying bombs on a flight from Mumbai to Azerbaijan.

Since October 14, hundreds of planes have received bomb threats.

Last month, six Mumbai-bound flights were targeted with hoax bomb threats on a single. The flights landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport according to their schedules. The threats were made from an X account. Apart from these, several threats were made via calls and emails and, in one case, a scribbled note.
