Speaking on the incident, the MP said, “Welcome to Islamic Republic of West Bengal!! Shovan Mandal didn't know that saying 'Jai Sri Ram' among his friends would get him beaten badly by his headmaster. Not only this, was also warned him not to wear sacred thread and tilak”. In a similar incident, opposition pointed several fingers even at Congress President Rahul Gandhi for his statement we he allegedly said that “Congress is a Muslim Party”. Following Gandhi’s statement opposition took several jibes on him and accused the party of being anti-Hindu party.
