New Delhi: While paying tribute to the freedom fighter Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bhagwan Birsa Munda Smriti Udyan cum Freedom Fighters Museum in Ranchi via video conferencing on Monday.
Speaking at the ceremony, PM Modi said, “Nation decided that during 'Amrit Kaal of independence, tribal traditions & its tales of gallantry will be given even more grand identity. The historic decision has been taken that Nov 15 - the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda - will be celebrated as 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.”
“I have spent a large part of my life with tribal brothers & sisters and children. I have been a witness to their joys & sorrows, daily lives, and the necessities of their lives. So, today is also an emotional day for me personally,” he added.
Remembering Birsa Munda’s contribution to the freedom struggle, PM tweeted, “Respectful tributes to Lord Birsa Munda Ji on his birth anniversary. Along with giving a sharp edge to the freedom movement, he always struggled to protect the interests of the tribal society. His contribution to the country will always be remembered.”

Later, Madhya Pradesh CM, Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked the PM saying, “I thank the PM for the decision to celebrate Bhagwan Birsa Munda's birth anniversary as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. It's the proper display of valour of our tribal warriors. Britishers & Congress taught the wrong history. History of the freedom struggle was made history by one family.”
After the video conferencing, the PM and other senior leaders paid tribute to the freedom fighter at the Parliament premises.
Birsa Munda was a freedom fighter who led the fight against the British in the late 19th century. His birth anniversary coincides with the Jharkhand foundation day.
