'What Happened In Bihar When Your Parents Were In Power?': CM Nitish Kumar Hits Back At Tejashwi Yadav

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar criticised his former deputy Tejashwi Yadav, questioning the effectiveness of governments led by Tejashwi's parents, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar accused the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of engaging in corrupt practices and allowing communal riots during its rule in the state. Speaking during a confidence motion moved by his Janata Dal (United) party in the state assembly, Kumar vowed to initiate probes into these allegations. Kumar, who recently returned to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to form the government with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) support, criticised his former deputy Tejashwi Yadav, questioning the effectiveness of governments led by Tejashwi's parents, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, before his own assumption of power in 2005.

"I started working in 2005 and so much development happened since then. Before me, his (Tejashwi Yadav) father and mother got the opportunity to work for 15 years what happened in Bihar? Would any person step out in the evening? Was there any road? They say they have Muslims with them, but during their tenure, there were Hindu-Muslim rifts. We stopped the conflicts," he remarked.

He further stressed that Bihar's history before 2005 be recalled.

"We worked together with the BJP... In 2015, '7 Nichay' was my idea. When we came together (as ) I saw that they were not working properly I returned to the BJP. In 2020, when I decided on second part of '7 Nichay', the BJP supported it and we worked together on it. Now you claim that you worked on it. When so many people were being recruited, who was the Education minister? When we were working as per an agreed plan, you came and took over the Education department... You stalled the work," he added, accusing the RJD of claiming credit for providing employment.

"During RJD's tenure, several communal riots took place in Bihar. There was no law and order. The RJD indulged in corrupt practices during its rule... I will get these probed," Kumar asserted, as quoted by PTI.

The Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar secured a vote of confidence in the assembly, winning with 129 votes, despite a walkout by opposition members. The state assembly has a total strength of 243 MLAs, PTI reported.

‘Can PM Modi Guarantee Nitish Kumar Won’t Do Another Volte-Face?’: Tejashwi Yadav

Earlier in the assembly session, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav expressed disappointment over Kumar's departure from the 'Mahagathbandhan' alliance and his return to the BJP-led NDA. Yadav, who had previously considered Kumar a father figure, questioned the reasons behind the shift in alliances.

"I always considered Nitish Kumar as 'Dashrath'... I don't know what reasons forced him to ditch the 'Mahagathbandhan'," Yadav remarked, referencing a character from the epic Ramayan. He also criticised Kumar for his record ninth swearing-in as chief minister and his third term within a five-year period.

"The BJP was scared of the 'Mahagathbandhan' government in Bihar... Can Prime Minister Narendra Modi guarantee that Nitish Kumar will not do another volte-face?" Yadav questioned, highlighting the political dynamics in the state.
