Weeks after staging a dharna in Kolkata, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee attacked the Centre again alleging non-disbursal of funds due to the state. She said the Centre had refused funds till 2024.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched an attack on the BJP-led Centre, alleging the PM Narendra Modi government had refused to disburse funds to the state till next year. She said that she is ready to seek aid from the women of Bengal, but will not "beg" to the central government for funds.
According to news agency ANI, while addressing a public meeting in Kolkata, CM Mamata Banerjee said, "The only thing that's always on my mind is that people must never misunderstand me. CM Banerjee staged a two-day dharna against the central government on March 29 over the issue of alleged denial of funds to West Bengal. The Mamata Banerjee government alleged that the state is not getting the funds due to it from the Centre for various schemes, including the 100-day work programme. CM Banerjee alleged that even the share of GST due to Bengal is not being disbursed. She said that the Centre owes about Rs 7,000 crore to Bengal.
CM Banerjee in the protest last month, accused the BJP government of giving clean chit to Opposition leaders who join the saffron party and held a "washing machine" protest in Kolkata. Banerjee was seen putting in a black cloth into a model of a washing machine and pulling out a white cloth as her supporters shouted slogans of "washing machine BhajJaPa [BJP]". This was a symbolic representation of the Opposition's claims of the BJP misusing central investigative agencies to intimidate their leaders into joining the saffron party using criminal complaints and later dropping the charges when they joined the BJP.
