Atal Bihari Vajpayee Birth Anniversary: President Murmu, PM Modi, BJP Leaders Pay Tribute To Former PM

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924 in Gwalior and served as the Prime Minister of the country for a period of 13 months, from March 19, 1998 till May 22, 2004. 

Several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party paid their tributes to the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 98th birth anniversary today. To commemorate the birth anniversary of the BJP leader, the saffron party observes this day as Good Governance Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a video on his Twitter account, remembering the ideas and beliefs of the former Prime Minister towards nation building. “Reiterating his pledge for a prosperous and developed India, I pay my tribute to Atal ji on behalf of everyone of you,” the PM could be heard saying in the video. 

Sharing the video, Modi wrote, “Tributes to Atal Ji on his Jayanti. His contribution to India is indelible. His leadership and vision motivate millions of people.

President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar along with PM Modi paid floral tribute to the 10th Prime Minister of the country at ‘Sadaiv Atal’ in the national capital.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also remembered the stalwart politician and paid his tributes. 

“The life of Atal ji, the pinnacle of Indian politics, was devoted to taking the country back to its ultimate glory.”

“By laying the foundation of a new era of development and good governance, he made the world aware of India's potential under his leadership and instilled a sense of national pride in the public.”

“Tribute to Atal ji on his birth anniversary today,” he tweeted.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid his tribute and extended best wishes on Good Governance Day.

“Humble tribute to the seeker of politics of values and ideals, strong speaker, excellent poet, former Prime Minister, 'Bharat Ratna' revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary! Your sagely life is an inspiration for all nation worshippers. Best wishes to all of you on 'Good Governance Day'!”

Atal Bihari Vjapayee: Biography 

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924 in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior and was the Prime Minister of the country for a period of 13 months, from March 19, 1998 till May 22, 2004. 

He was one of the co-founders and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and was also a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh who was elected to Lok Sabha ten times and twice to Rajya Sabha. 

The key events during his office of the Prime Minister include Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998 and travelling to Lahore by bus in 1999 to meet with then Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif to improve diplomatic ties. 

Apart from his political career, Vajpayee was well-known for his avid interest in Hindi literature and poetry.  

 After deteriorating health condition over several years, Vajpayee passed away on August 16, 2018 at the age of 93.
