Assam Election Results 2021: CM Sonowal Confident Of Victory, Says BJP Will Achieve Target As Trends Are Upbeat
Assam Election Results 2021: As of now the ruling BJP-led NDA is ahead of the Grand Alliance led by the Congress in Assam, leading in 77 of the 119 seats.
Assam Election Results 2021: As the initial trends are emerging for the Assam election held in three phases showed that the BJP is surging ahead over its rivals, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday reiterated faith in the saffron party-led alliance saying the alliance will retain its victory in the state.
Assam elections were conducted starting March 27 followed by April 1 and April 6. While BJP has a good chance of retaining power, the contest with Congress this time is a close one. Also Read: Odisha Coronavirus Lockdown: State Announces 14-Day Lockdown From May 5
As of now, the ruling BJP-led NDA is ahead of the Grand Alliance led by the Congress in Assam, leading in 77 of the 119 seats, and Congress with 47 and others 3, as per the trends on the Election Commission website at 12.15 pm.
"People have blessed us. We can say for sure that the BJP will form government in Assam. We are coming back to power with our partners AGP and UPPL," Sonowal said, as per the news agency PTI.
On asked whether the ruling coalition will be able to win 100 seats, as claimed by the ruling party ahead of the polls, the CM said, "The trends are completely in favour of the BJP. The party will achieve its target. However, we will have to wait for the final results."
Sonowal continues to enjoy a comfortable lead in the Majuli constituency. The saffron party is confident of winning with 100 plus seats in the 126-member assembly. So as of now, the saffron party is expected to return to power. ABP C-Voter Exit Poll projections suggested that BJP's contest with Congress this time is a close one.
The Congress which was superseded by BJP in 2016, formed a grand alliance with perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and four other parties.
The BJP had fought the 2016 Assam polls in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) registering a decisive victory.
