Amritpal Singh’s Wife Didn’t Commit Any Crime, Stopping Her At Airport Was Not Right: Akal Takht Jathedar

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said preventing pro-Khalistan leader Amritpla Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur from travelling to the UK at an airport was not right.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Friday said preventing pro-Khalistan leader Amritpla Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur from travelling to the UK at an airport was not right. In a video message released by him, Singh added that it was not right from any angle to have restricted Kaur from going to her parental home. The supreme temporal seat of Sikhs Jathedar also stated that governments shouldn't create any atmosphere of panic in the area.

His comments come after Kaur was restricted from boarding a flight to London at the Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport on Thursday. Singh, as quoted by news agency PTI, said: "Moreover, she is a British national. She didn't commit any crime and if the government wants to ask or enquire anything from her, they should respectfully visit her residence.”

He further said police made several visits to Kaur’s house earlier too and questioned the family. Kaur was questioned by the immigration authorities and some other officials for more than three hours earlier.

However, she was later asked to return along with some relatives who had come to see her off at the airport.

Amriptal Singh married Kaur at his native village Jallupur Khera in Amritsar on February 10. Kaur is a British citizen.

She was stopped at Amritsar Airport more than a month after a police crackdown against Amritpal Singh and his associates. Meanwhile, the radical preacher is absconding as the operation to nab him is underway.

The main aide of pro-Khalistan leader and Waris De Punjab chief Amritpal Singh was arrested in Sirhind on Saturday (April 15). According to Narinder Bhargav, DIG Border Range, the aide, Joga Singh, was apprehended in a joint operation of Amritsar-rural and Hoshiarpur police. Joga Singh was with Amritpal from March 18 to March 28, news agency ANI reported.

According to Satinder Singh, SSP-rural, Amritsar, Joga Singh was the one who brought Amritpal back to Punjab on March 27. Joga, a Ludhiana resident, was in charge of a Dera in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.

"Joga Singh was in direct contact with Amritpal Singh. He arranged shelter and vehicles for Amritpal Singh. He arranged for him to stay in Pilibhit and then return to Punjab," said Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Narinder Bhargav.
