Renowned economist and philosopher Amartya Kumar Sen's daughter Nandana Dev Sen on Tuesday denied rumours of his death. The rumours circulated after a fake X account attributed to 2023 Economics Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin claimed that the Bharat Ratna awardee breathed his last today.

Nandana Sen took to X and posted: "Friends, thanks for your concern but it’s fake news: Baba is totally fine. We just spent a wonderful week together w/ family in Cambridge—his hug as strong as always last night when we said bye! He is teaching 2 courses a week at Harvard, working on his gender book—busy as ever!"

Sen, who was born on November 3, 1933, in Santiniketan, West Bengal, had a prolific career that spanned decades. He boasts an indelible legacy of groundbreaking contributions to the fields of economics, social welfare, and philosophy.

Throughout his career, Sen held numerous prestigious positions, including Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. He is a relentless advocate for the underprivileged and worked tirelessly to promote social justice and economic equality.

His significant contributions to development economics and his advocacy for policies aimed at reducing poverty and inequality made him a revered figure not only in academia but also in international policymaking circles. Sen's approach to development, which emphasised the importance of individual freedoms and capabilities, laid the foundation for many social and economic development programs around the world.
