Ahmedabad Ready To Say 'Namaste Trump' Amid Tight Security

The US President will arrive in Ahmedabad for a two-day India visit later today. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

New Delhi: Ahmedabad is all set to welcome US President Donald Trump today, with security arrangements been tightened outside the Motera Stadium, where Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to jointly address the "Namaste Trump" mega-event later today. The US President will arrive in Ahmedabad for a two-day India visit later today. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner. Ahead of his visit, unprecedented security personnel have been deployed not only in the stadium but also along the entire route from where the convoy of President Trump and Narendra Modi is scheduled to pass. Barricades have also been put up. Cumulatively, a total of 108 senior police officers, including 33 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 75 Assistant Commissioners of Police besides thousands of junior officers and jawans are part of the security arrangements during Trump's visit to the city. Tight security has also been put in place outside Sabarmati Ashram with sniffer dog of the US security also present. Passengers advised arriving 3 hours ahead of scheduled departure. Passengers to carry hard copies of their flight itinerary based on which police authorities to facilitate their journey to the airport," Ahmedabad Airport Director Manoj Gangal was quoted as saying by ANI. Trump is scheduled to take a brief halt of about 15 minutes at Sabarmati Ashram during his roadshow from International Airport here to the world's largest cricket stadium as the place was the epicentre of the country's freedom struggle during Mahatma Gandhi's 13 years' stay there between 1917 and 1930. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will be hosting Trump along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when Air Force One carrying the US President, his family and a delegation led by him will touch down at the Ahmedabad airport at around 11.30 a.m. As over two lakh people are expected to arrive at the Motera stadium, which has the maximum capacity of around 1.50 lakh people with seating arrangement for 1.10 lakh people, 10,000 VIPs and over 3,500 VVIPs, police is geared up for crowd management as people are being brought in thousands of buses and other private vehicles from across Gujarat. After addressing the gathering at the "Namaste Trump" event at the Motera stadium, both the leaders will leave for Agra around 3.30 p.m. (with inputs from agencies)
