After Coronavirus Pandemic, Now Mumbai Battles Havoc Caused By Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rainfall has brought Mumbai to a standstill. According to the IMD, the situation will not change for the next 2-3 days

Mumbai: Three days of continuous heavy rain has slowed down Mumbai and water-logging in the suburbs has disrupted normal life.  The BMC has also stated that the India meteorological department (IMD) has issued an orange alert.

According to BMC Disaster Cell, south Mumbai notched 12.16 cm rain while the suburbs recorded 9.66 cm rain, coming to a seasonal total of 51.97 percent and 45.99 percent, respectively, as per the IMD. The BMC's rain-gauges measured 8.92 cm rain in the city, 4.84 cm in the eastern suburbs, and 7.51 cm in the western suburbs, giving a seasonal total rainfall of 37.74 percent till date according to an IANS report. Overnight heavy rain has led to waterlogging in areas like Wadala, Dadar, and Matunga, the Andheri subway was also reported to be flooded causing minor traffic diversions. (PTI Image) The heavy rain has also loosened the earth and there have been reports that 12 big and small trees have fallen, few houses were also damaged in the rain. There have been 21 short circuits reported so far, however, there have been no reports of causalities. A fire broke out on the first floor of nine-storied Maker Bhavan-1 in the Fort area of south Mumbai, which was extinguished in three hours, no causalities have been reported from the fire.
