21 Cops Injured, Vehicles Damaged As BJP Workers Hurl Eggs, Stones At Police Outside Odisha Assembly

21 police personnel were injured after BJP Yuva Morcha workers attacked the police in a bid to enter the Odisha assembly in Bhubaneswar.

New Delhi: At least 21 police personnel were injured after BJP Yuva Morcha workers attacked the police in a bid to enter the Odisha assembly in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. According to the police the workers damaged several police vehicles and tried to set vehicles on fire. The police tried to stop the workers from entering the state assembly after which they attacked the police and hurled eggs, stones and water bottles, as reported by the news agency ANI.

"Yesterday BJP Yuva Morcha workers tried to enter the Assembly. When police tried to stop them, they immediately attacked the police. They hurled eggs, stones, water bottles. Due to this 21 police personnel were injured and hospitalised," Saumendra Kumar Priyadarshi, Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack said as quoted by the news agency ANI.

"2 police personnel are seriously injured and have been referred to Cuttack. They damaged several police vehicles and tried to set several vehicles on fire. This is a very serious offence. We arrested 22 BJYM workers and sent them to judicial custody," he added. He further said, "we will take stern action and the way they attacked us indicates it was pre-planned."

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday registered a complaint against the police in the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar for abusing and manhandling BJYM workers while they were protesting against the deteriorating law and order in the state.

The youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party also staged a night-long demonstration, trigged after the police detained their workers, who were protesting against the state government.
