20 Lakh Crore Economic Package Was A Show Off By The Government: Abhishek Manu Singhvi

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi attacked the government over a faltering economy. "GDP is falling continuously," he said adding that the 20 lakh crore economic package is a mere show-off by the government.

New Delhi: While speaking to ABP news during the E Shikhar Sammelan Congress leader Abhishek Manu Sanghvi launched an attack on the central government over faltering economy and accused the center of not addressing the plight of migrants workers during the start of the lockdown, "No transportation was provided for the laborers at the start. The poor planning of imposing the lockdown has brought the laborers to such difficult times. The pictures we see every day will be remembered by everyone for the next 100 years and the Modi government is responsible for this failure." Singhvi blamed the government for the difficulties faced by the migrant laborers to reach home. He said that the government did not provide economic relief to the migrant laborers which could have helped them survive. Singhvi said that providing loans to the laborers will not provide them any good as they are not capable of taking any debts, it will also not provide any benefit to the government as nobody will approach the banks for loans in such a crisis. The 20 lakh crore economic package is a mere show-off by the government. The GDP is falling continuously. He said that the Congress party wants the government to transfer Rs 7,500 to every laborers' bank account which would cost the government only Rs 1 lakh crore. He said that if people will have money in their pockets then it would help in increasing the demand, which would eventually bring the economic conditions on the track. He said that the government should not focus on the increase in the fiscal deficit, as this is a case of an emergency and everyone should focus on the difficulties faced by migrants. Speaking about MNREGA, he targeted PM Modi and said," The Prime Minister always called MNREGA a monumental failure but today MNREGA is the only plan which is helping them handle the situation." Singhvi also accused the government of the low testing capacity of coronavirus. "There is a constant surge in the number of cases due to coronavirus and if we compare globally by the rate of growth, we are at 5th position which is an alarming situation. Our testing capacity is also the least. Of 10 lakh people only 2-3 people are being tested." Speaking about the UP bus row he said that Congress provided the buses at UP border to help the migrants." We are not in power, all we can do is extend help to the ruling party. We want the migrants to reach home safely."
