Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has offered India the use of Chattogram and Sylhet ports in an effort to promote trade and commerce, reported news agency PTI. Due to its proximity to the states in India's North-Eastern region, Bangladesh's Chhattogram port is an important seaport.

Chattogram, also known as Chittagong, is a significant port city on Bangladesh's southeast coast. Sylhet post is situated in eastern Bangladesh, on the Surma Stream, known for its Sufi sanctuaries.

When Ram Madhav of the India Foundation paid her a visit at her official residence, Ganabhaban, on Sunday, Prime Minister Hasina was quoted as saying, "India can use our Chattogram and Sylhet ports if they want."

According to Prime Minister Hasina, this move will improve personal connections and regional connectivity.

During her associations with Madhav, Hasina likewise passed her good tidings on to State leader Narendra Modi, the report said.

Madhav was pleased with Bangladesh's socioeconomic progress under Hasina's leadership.

According to the report, he was quoted as saying, "Bangladesh and India have excellent friendship as neighbouring countries and hope that this relationship will continue in future."

The meeting was attended by Ambassador at Large M. Ziauddin, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M. Shahriar Alam, and PM's Principal Secretary M. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, according to ANI.

An India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline was constructed for an estimated cost of Rs 377 crore to improve relations between India and Bangladesh. Of that amount, approximately Rs 285 crore was spent by the Indian government with grant assistance on the Bangladesh section of the pipeline.

The India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline was officially opened on March 18 via video conference between Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
