Chennai: This National Doctor's Day let's celebrate the unsung heroes who have dished out the humanity in them to save as many as life possible in the crisis period when India was hit by the most deadly variants. When the whole country is reeling under the deadly impact of Covid-19's Alpha, Delta, and Delta plus variants, today hold much more importance despite a lot of doctors in the country have been assaulted and even lost lives after getting infected while treating Covid patients.
The first National Doctor's Day was celebrated 30 years ago in 1991 on July 1 in honour of Dr BC Roy's contribution to the field of medicine. He was a renowned physician and a freedom fighter. People not necessarily in the doctor's field have been helping in saving lives of others which displays their kind-heartedness, there have been a lot of unsung heroes, who weren't in the doctors' field but have adversely helped tens and thousands affected by Covid.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted doctors for standing strong in the crisis period: "On Doctors Day, my greetings to all doctors. India's strides in the world of medicine are commendable and have contributed to making our planet healthier."

Here are a few of the most kind-hearted unsung heroes, who have saved the lives of tens and thousands of people in this crisis period:
Dr V Vaishnavi: A Hyderabad-based MBBS doctor, who had completed her MBBS in 2019 and is preparing for the PG-NEET exams, has been hit by back-to-back postponements of the PG-NEET. Meanwhile, the MBBS doctor had decided to help people by taking up SOS calls. She tirelessly worked towards resolving many issues the COVID patients would ask her on call. At the peak of the second wave, she claims to have attended as many as 40 calls a day from both the Telugu states. For the novel diseases like Covid-19, it is important to create awareness and Dr Vaishnavi has undoubtedly succeeded in that as the patients have bestowed accolades by calling her back after being recovered from the deadly virus.
Malleshwar Rao: It's a rare phenomenon to see people who help others, but a humble man from Hyderabad, Malleshwar Rao, has helped in refilling 70-80 oxygen cylinders and supplied them to two hospitals in the city that were majorly taking in Covid patients. Since the pandemic started, he has supplied groceries to 70,000 families. He had supplied water bottles to the frontline workers in the harrowing times for the doctors and also distributed 50 tonnes of fruits and vegetables.
Sathya Sankaran: Sathya Relief Riders, mounting atop a bicycle 650 cyclists came together to help people get food, medicines, and other household commodities on time. Sathya's cyclists have been helping people across 10 cities — Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hubli-Dharwad, Mumbai, Silvassa, Guwahati, Gurugram, Jaipur and Belagavi.
