Now you can see how much time you're wasting on Instagram daily; Here's how

Instagram has started rolling out a feature it announced earlier this year that allows users to check how much time they spend on the application every day and also a weekly average.

New Delhi: Have you ever thought how much time in a day you spend surfing through all the social networking applications installed in your smartphone? Well, generally it’s tough to keep an account of time spent on social media platform on your own, but what if the application itself tracks a record of it and tells you the same? Wouldn’t that be really helpful? Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram has started rolling out a feature it announced earlier this year that allows users to check how much time they spend on the application every day and also a weekly average. The new feature, which lies inside the ‘hamburger’ icon on the upper right corner of your profile page, includes tools for setting daily time limits and the option to temporarily mute push notifications, reported The Verge. Instagram’s new time-tracking feature comes under ‘Your Activity’ tab that keeps minute-wise average track of the total time spent by a user here. The feature is currently available for limited users but is expected to be available for all Instagram accounts soon. This time tracking feature, which you can find in settings, is part of Facebook’s digital wellness initiative to focus on ‘time well spent’ on all its application. Excessive usage of such apps lead to harmful effects on human body and mind and thus the social networking giant aims to mitigate some of the harms. Even Facebook will roll out a similar function anytime soon. Facebook will reportedly add the feature to its activity dashboard, which is to be called "Your time on Facebook". A similar feature called Screen Time has been introduced by Apple on its iOS, and with Google also releasing a Digital Wellbeing dashboard with Android 9.0, tech companies are thinking about helping users better manage their time using apps, the Verge report added further. In July, the photo-sharing app rolled out the ‘You're All Caught Up’ feature that helps the users to keep a track of the posts they have seen. Posts that are already viewed as well as posts that are older than two days appear below the "You're All Caught Up" message.
