The festival of lights 'Diwali' or 'Deepavali' represents the triumph of good over evil, spreading light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. As a diverse multi-cultural country, India has different interpretations of Diwali. Though the history, rituals, and deities differ across the country, the essence of the festival remains consistent.
On Diwali 2022, all eyes are on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after he celebrated Diwali eve in Ayodhya, as he has started a tradition of his own to celebrate the festival with the jawans at the border.
On Diwali 2022 eve, President Droupadi Murmu greeted citizens and said the festival is also an occasion to further strengthen the spirit of mutual cooperation and harmony.
"Diwali is a festival of happiness and joy. On the day of Diwali, people worship Goddess Lakshmi in their homes and pray for everyone's happiness and prosperity," President Droupadi Murmu said in a message from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Diwali marks the huge religious importance in the country. Not only Hindus but Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists also celebrate this day as they all have different beliefs in their religion regarding Amavasya of Kartik Month. On a large level, Hindus celebrate the day as Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated Diwali with orphans and destitute children in state capital Dehradun "The children are being nurtured well. I pray that they grow well in their lives and that we're able to help them in future. I wish them a happy Diwali," he said, reported news agency ANI.
