Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Thursday, July 15: In a clear sign of the pandemic's second wave weakening, recoveries remained higher, with 2,537 patients discharged while 1,990 new cases were registered in a day across Karnataka, said the state health bulletin on Wednesday.
"Recoveries shot up to 28,06,933 till date, with 2,537 patients discharged in the last 24 hours, while 1,990 new cases on Tuesday increased the state's Covid tally to 28,76,587, including 33,642 active cases," said the bulletin.
As epicentre of the pandemic in the state, Bengaluru, however, reported only 400 fresh cases on Tuesday, taking its Covid tally to 12,20,498, including 12,573 active cases, while recoveries rose to 11,92,163, with 490 patients discharged during the day.
The infection claimed 45 lives, including 8 in Bengaluru, taking the state's death toll to 35,989 and the city's toll to 15,761 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.
Ahead of Supreme Court's hearing on the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to allow ‘Kanwar Yatra‘ in the state in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the administration in Uttarakhand's Haridwar announced that arrangements are being made to send Gangajal, the Hindu holy water, to devotees via post.
"We've started the process of sending Gangajal via post to devotees. We're also planning to supply Gangajal in tankers and are in talks with administration of neighbouring states to avoid large number of gathering here," said Haridwar Dist Magistrate C Ravishankar, Uttarakhand.

Reeling under the second wave of Coronavirus, Russia on Thursday reported as many as 25,293 new infections, setting a grim new record for daily deaths with 791 confirmed fatalities.
Russia has officially identified more than 5.8 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.
Odisha logs 2,110 new COVID-19 cases, 66 fresh fatalities
Odisha's COVID-19 caseload on Thursday mounted to 9,47,859 after 2,110 more people tested positive for the infection, while 66 fresh fatalities pushed the toll to 4,861, a health department official said.
Of the 2,110 new cases, 1,213 were reported from quarantine centres, and the rest detected during contact tracing, the official said.
Five districts logged more than 100 fresh cases each.
Khurda district, of which the state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the maximum number of new infections at 458, followed by Cuttack at 323, Balasore at 168, Kendrapara at 132 and Puri at 113.
Nuapada district recorded the lowest number of new infections at two.
The coastal state has been registering over 60 fatalities in a day since July 11.
Khurda reported 21 fatalities, followed by Bargarh and Sundargarh at 10 each, Balasore at eight, Sambalpur at seven, and Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj at two each.
One each succumbed to the disease in Bolangir, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi and Puri.
This apart, 53 COVID-19 patients in the state have died due to comorbidities, the official said.
Taking to Twitter, the health department said, "This (fatality) list does not reflect deaths occurring on a particular day. It gives details of past deaths for which the audit process has been duly completed and the cause identified as COVID-19."
Odisha currently has 22,299 active cases, while 9,20,646 patients, including 2,605 on Wednesday, have recovered from the highly infectious disease.
Over 1.48 crore sample tests have been conducted in the state thus far, including 72,322 on Wednesday. Odisha's positivity rate stands at 6.38 per cent.
Meanwhile, sources in the health department said that the Centre has agreed to allocate for Odisha 15.92 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine and 1.48 lakh doses of Covaxin for the second half of July.
India recorded 41,806 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours
India recorded 41,806 new coronavirus cases, taking the infection tally to 3,09,87,880, while the active cases increased to 4,32,041, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.
An increase of 2,095 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The active cases comprise 1.39 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.28 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Also, 19,43,488 tests were conducted on Wednesday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 43,80,11,958, while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.15 per cent. It has been less than three per cent for 24 consecutive days, the ministry said.
The weekly positivity rate stands at 2.21 per cent, according to the ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,01,43,850, while the case fatality rate has increased to 1.39 per cent, the data stated.
Cumulative vaccine doses administered so far have reached 39.13 crore under the nationwide vaccination drive.
India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh-mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.
It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one crore-mark on December 19.India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
