Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, Thursday, July 15: In a clear sign of the pandemic's second wave weakening, recoveries remained higher, with 2,537 patients discharged while 1,990 new cases were registered in a day across Karnataka, said the state health bulletin on Wednesday.
"Recoveries shot up to 28,06,933 till date, with 2,537 patients discharged in the last 24 hours, while 1,990 new cases on Tuesday increased the state's Covid tally to 28,76,587, including 33,642 active cases," said the bulletin.
As epicentre of the pandemic in the state, Bengaluru, however, reported only 400 fresh cases on Tuesday, taking its Covid tally to 12,20,498, including 12,573 active cases, while recoveries rose to 11,92,163, with 490 patients discharged during the day.
The infection claimed 45 lives, including 8 in Bengaluru, taking the state's death toll to 35,989 and the city's toll to 15,761 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.
Ahead of Supreme Court's hearing on the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to allow ‘Kanwar Yatra‘ in the state in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the administration in Uttarakhand's Haridwar announced that arrangements are being made to send Gangajal, the Hindu holy water, to devotees via post.
"We've started the process of sending Gangajal via post to devotees. We're also planning to supply Gangajal in tankers and are in talks with administration of neighbouring states to avoid large number of gathering here," said Haridwar Dist Magistrate C Ravishankar, Uttarakhand.
