UK Foreign Secretary Lammy To Begin 2-Day India Visit Today

In the first high-level engagement between India and United Kingdom after Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government came to power, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy is set to pay a two-day visit to India, beginning Wednesday.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the wide-ranging talks between Lammy and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will likely include the long-pending India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) along with discussion on New Delhi's concerns over pro-Khalistan activities in Britain.

The British foreign secretary is also slated to meet Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. During their meeting, both the nations are expected to reaffirm their commitment to the proposed free trade pact.

The issue of the FTA figured during a phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Starmer on July 6.

After the phone conversation, Starmer stated that he stood ready to conclude a deal that worked for both the nations, a statement issued by the UK government said.
