'Tiranga Yatra' In Delhi, To Cover 8 Places Visited By Mahatma Gandhi: BJP's Vijay Goel

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Goel on Monday said that a 'tiranga yatra' will be organised in Delhi on August 9 and it will pass through eight places visited by Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle.

Goel said that Union Minister Jitendra Singh and BJP MP Prakash Javadekar will also take part in the march starting at 10 am from the Red Fort.

"Thousands of people from different sections and age groups will participate in the yatra that will begin from Red Fort and proceed towards Chandni Chowk.

"With the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sparked a new spirit amongst the citizens across the country," Goel said.

JD(U) Meeting To Discuss Scenario Post-RCP Singh's Exit: Party chief

Amidst the political turmoil in Bihar's politics, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called a meeting of JDU MLAs and MPs on Tuesday after the exit of former national president RCP Singh, party chief Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan said on Monday, as reported by news agency PTI.

Talking to reporters here, Lalan did not react to speculations that Kumar was planning to walk out of the NDA but took exception to the claim that the BJP had decided who would be a minister from the JD(U).

“I read in the newspapers that RCP Singh has said that he was told by Union Home Minister Amit Shah that his name had been approved for ministership. He claims to have taken oath after informing the CM. But this only confirms what we have been accusing RCP of,” the JD(U) national president stated.

“Our charge is that RCP became a minister as per his own sweet will (apni marzi se). He has dropped the name of Shah. Does Shah belong to our party? Can the BJP decide which JD(U) leader will become a minister,” Lalan asked.

Breaking News LIVE: PM Modi remembers freedom fighters on Quit India movement anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to those who participated in the Quit India movement and said it brought together people from all sections of society. The decisive campaign against the British rule was launched this day in 1942 on Mahatma Gandhi's call at the Bombay session of the Congress on August 8 in his famous "do or die" speech. An alarmed British government arrested the top leadership of the Congress but people embraced Gandhi's call. "Remembering all those who took part in the Quit India Movement under Bapu's leadership and strengthened our freedom struggle," Modi tweeted, posting a clip of his earlier address in which he had spoken about it. Modi also shared great socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan's remark "August 9 has become a burning symbol of our national revolution". "Inspired by Bapu, the Quit India Movement witnessed remarkable participation from people across all sections of society including greats like JP and Dr. Lohia," Modi tweeted.
