Breaking News LIVE: CJI Lalit-Led Bench Will Hear Pleas Of Siddique Kappan And Navlakha, PILs

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) U U Lalit will hear on Monday the bail plea of Kerala-based journalist Siddiqui Kappan, a petition by social activist Gautam Navlakha and some important PILs. Monday will be Justice Lalit's first day as CJI.

Justice Lalit took oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India on Saturday, but the court does not function on Saturdays and Sundays.

Kappan, a journalist from Kerala, was arrested in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, where a Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped to death. Kappan has approached the apex court for bail in this case.

Delhi Assembly's Special Session Likely To Be Stormy, Govt To Table Confidence Motion

The trust vote proposed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be tabled in the House on Monday in a special session of the Delhi Assembly. This is likely to lead to a huge ruckus between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition BJP. AAP has 62 MLAs in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, while the BJP has eight.

In a scathing attack on the BJP, Kejriwal on Friday alleged that the 'Operation Lotus' launched by the BJP to topple his government failed as it could not buy any AAP MLAs.

The AAP national convener also alleged that the BJP had targeted 40 AAP MLAs and offered each of them Rs 20 crore to change the party.
