Bhutan King In India, To Meet PM Modi, Discussion Likely To Focus On Bhutan-China Border Talks
The fact that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar received Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at this airport on Monday, the first day of his two-day trip to India, demonstrates the significance that New Delhi places on the visit.
On Tuesday, the King will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. His visit is significant because everyone will be watching to see how he talks to PM Modi and how the border talks between Bhutan and China are going.
Since progress was made in the boundary talks between China and Bhutan, this is actually the first such high-level meeting between PM Modi and the King of Bhutan.
"Warm welcome to India, Your Majesty! His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck arrived in India a short while ago. His Majesty was received by EAM @DrSJaishankar at the airport," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.
India views Bhutan as a strategically important nation, and bilateral defense and security ties have grown significantly in recent years.
Donald Trump Set To Be Arraigned In Manhattan Court
Donald Trump is set to be summoned on Tuesday subsequent to being prosecuted last week by a Manhattan great jury on charges emerging from quiet cash installments made to a pornography star during his 2016 mission, making him the first former US president to confront a criminal charge and overturning his bid to retake the White House in 2024, reported PTI.
According to a statement released by his office on Sunday, the 76-year-old is anticipated to fly to New York City from his residence at Mar-a-Lago on Monday. Following his court hearing, he intends to return to his resort in Florida, where he will address his supporters on Tuesday night.
"I will be leaving Mar-a-Lago on Monday at 12 noon, heading to Trump Tower in New York. On Tuesday morning I will be going to, believe it or not, the Courthouse. America was not supposed to be this way!” Trump wrote on his social media account on Truth Social Sunday, as the city braces for demonstrations from his supporters and protestors in the wake of the unprecedented criminal indictment of a former president.
On Tuesday, Trump, the first former president of the United States to be charged with a crime, will be arraigned. It is expected that the process will be brief. During the hearing, which is expected to last between 10 and 15 minutes, the charges in the indictment will be read to him.
In relation to the payments made to Daniels, 44, prior to the 2016 presidential election, he has denied any wrongdoing.
