Sidhu Moosewala’s First Death Anniversary Event Today
Slain singer Sidhu Moosewala's family decided to observe his first death anniversary on March 19. Fans of the singer, who was shot dead last year, are expected to show up in large numbers at Moosewala’s village on Sunday. Political leaders, including those from the Congress, are also expected to be present at the event.
Moosewala's father Balkaur Singh had announced the gathering, known as 'barsi', through a video on social media. According to reports, the event will be held at a new market in Mansa. Meanwhile, Mansa district authorities and police are on high alert and security arrangements are in place, considering the fact that death threats were issued against Balkaur too.
Deputy Commissioner Baldeep Kaur has announced a ban on flying drones near the venue. Police personnel from other districts have also been brought in to ensure elaborate security arrangements.
Mumbai Central Railway To Operate Mega Block Today
Central Railway, Mumbai Division will operate Mega Block on its suburban section for carrying out various engineering and maintenance works on its main line today. Down slow line services leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai from 10.48 am to 3.40 pm will be diverted on Dn fast line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai and Vidyavihar stations halting at Byculla, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion and Kurla stations and further re-diverted on proper Dn slow line.
No Mega Block will be operated on Harbour Line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai and Panvel.
IMD Predicts Moderate Rainfall In Kerala Today
A weather bulletin issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted isolated moderate showers across Kerala, except for Kannur and Kasaragod, today. Although the weather largely remained dry on Saturday, isolated showers are expected on Sunday and Monday, triggered by a trough that runs from south Tamil Nadu to north Konkan across coastal and Interior Karnataka and Goa.
The weather forecast also warns of above normal summer rains over Kerala and Mahe and Lakshadweep during the last week of March.
Delhi-Jaipur Vande Bharat Express Train To Run Before April: Union Railway Min Vaishnaw
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Sunday that a new 'Vande Bharat Express' train will be inaugurated on the Delhi-Jaipur-Ajmer route by April 10.
The Union Railway Minister told ANI that some technical improvements are needed in this route before the Vande Bharat Express can completely operate.
Maharashtra Reports 236 Covid-19 Cases
Mumbai, Mar 19 (PTI) Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 236 new cases of coronavirus that raised the tally of infections to 81,39,737, an official from the state health department said.
The toll remained unchanged at 1,48,428, while the count of recoveries reached 79,90,001 after 92 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, the official said.
With a fatality rate and recovery rate of 1.82 per cent and 98.16 per cent respectively, the state is now left with 1,308 active cases, he said.
Mumbai reported 52 new cases, while 33 persons tested positive for the infection in Thane city, the official said.
Delhi Reports 72 Covid-19 Cases, Positivity Rate 3.95%
New Delhi, Mar 19 (PTI) Delhi logged 72 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.95 per cent on Sunday, according to data shared by the Health department.
The city has seen an increase in the number of fresh Covid cases over the last few days, amid a sharp rise in H3N2 influenza cases in the country.
The capital had on Saturday recorded 58 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 3.52 per cent.
The city registered 38 cases with a positivity rate of 3.13 per cent on Friday and 32 cases with a positivity rate of 2.25 per cent on Thursday.
UP Power Department Workers End Strike After Talks With Govt
Lucknow, Mar 19 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh electricity department employees on Sunday ended their 72-hour strike after several rounds of talks between their leaders and state energy minister A K Sharma, saying the decision was taken to "respect the directions of the chief minister".
The protesting employees, who had started their strike at 10 pm on March 16, announced to call it off at around 3 pm on Sunday.
"A number of rounds of talks were held (with the government). We raised our problems and the (energy) minister agreed positively to fix them.
"Respecting the directions of the Chief Minister (Yogi Adityanath), the positive dialogue with the energy minister, and respecting the high court, we have decided to call off our 72-hour symbolic protest one day in advance in view of massive public interest," Shailendra Dubey, convener of Vidyut Karmacharis Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, said while announcing the withdrawal of the strike.
