The festival of Diwali may dampen for the residents of West Bengal as cyclone 'Sitrang' is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm, will bring in its wake heavy to very heavy rain and wind reaching speed of 90 to 100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph, in the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas and East Midnapore on Monday, the weather office said, reported news agency PTI.

Heavy Rainfall Likely In Odisha And Bengal As Cyclone Sitrang Forms In Bay of Bengal: IMD


The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm on Sunday evening and is heading towards the Bangladesh coast, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. Thailand has named the cyclone SItrang, and it is expected to make landfall between Tinkona island and Sandwip in Bangladesh on Tuesday morning.


The cyclone was 580 kilometres south of Sagar Island in West Bengal and 740 kilometres south-southwest of Barisal in Bangladesh at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday.


The IMD forecast would continue to move north-northeastwards and cross the Bangladesh coast, between Tinkona Island and Sandwip, around October 25 morning.


Kerala Governor Seeks Resignation Of VCs Of 9 Varsities By Monday Morning


Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Sunday demanded the resignations of the vice-chancellors of nine universities in the state, citing a recent Supreme Court decision that invalidated the appointment of the VCs of the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University in this city for violating UGC rules.  


"Kerala Governor has directed that resignations of nine university Vice Chancellors reach him by 11.30 am on Monday," Raj Bhavan said in an issued statement, PTI reported. 


The APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University is one of the nine vice-chancellors, according to a tweet from Kerala Raj Bhavan on the governor's behalf.


"Upholding the verdict of Hon'ble SupremeCourt date 21.10.22 in Civil Appeal Nos.7634-7635 of 2022(@ SLP(c)Nos.21108-21109 of 2021), Hon'ble Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan has directed Vice Chancellors of 9 varsities in Kerala to tender resignation: PRO, Kerala Raj Bhavan," the tweet, accompanied by a list of the varsities, said.
