Govinda Naam Mera Review: Vicky, Kiara And Bhumi starrer Is All Fun Until The Humor Dries Out

'Govinda Naam Mera' might seem like a fun ride if one goes by the title and the trailer, but the film fails to live upto the audience's expectations and falls flat.

New Delhi: Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar starrer 'Govinda Naam Mera' might seem like a fun ride if one goes by the title and the trailer, but the film fails to live upto the audience's expectations and falls flat.

The comedy drama begins with Govind A Waghmare, also known as Govinda (Kaushal), a background dancer who aspires to become a choreographer. He is trying to balance his relationship with his "hot" wife Gauri (Pednekar) and his extramarital romance with his "naughty" girlfriend Suku (Advani). When not juggling his girlfriends, Govinda spends his time caring for his wheelchair-bound aai Asha Waghmare (Renuka Shahane), who is anxious to reclaim her late husband's property, or scheming mischief with his lawyer friend, Amey Wagh. A home with several claims is located in the centre of Mumbai. It is worth several crores. However, when Gauri is found dead and Govinda is named the major suspect, his issues escalate and his life becomes a roller coaster.

Although the cast gets to do a proper masala entertainer, with Vicky trying to exude the vibe and energy of Govinda, who rules the 90's as the 'King of Comedy', not much has been done to make his character create a lasting impact on the audience's mind. The film's director Shashank Khaitan has tried really hard to deliver an entertaining mix of comedy and mystery, seasoning it with the 90's masala, the storyline fails to do justice to actors like Vicky, Kiara and Bhumi and most importantly, Renuka Shahane.

Bhumi Pednekar makes a mark for herself as she is seen in a completely new avatar, a dominant, sadistic wife who derives pleasure in torturing her husband.

Kiara and Vicky make some of the best moves as they groove to the songs 'Bijli' and 'Kya Baat Hai'. Ranbir Kapoor's cameo in the song 'Bijli' also amps up the excitement for a few minutes.

But even the songs fail to save the badly executed film that tests the audience's patience with its stretched storyline and cringe-worthy dialogues.

Govinda Naam Mera is streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
