Travel Udaipur: Know The Places to Visit And Things To Do In The City Of Lakes

If you are planning a trip to Udaipur in the long weekend comprising Independence Day, here are a few places that must be in your list.

New Delhi: Udaipur is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is also referred to as the 'City of Lakes'. It is surrounded by the Aravalli hills. Founded in 1559 by the Rajput clan of Udai singh, Udaipur is a popular tourist destination known for its history, culture, scenic views, and Rajput-era palaces. The city is surrounded by seven lakes. So, if you are planning a trip to Udaipur in the long weekend comprising Independence Day, here are a few places that must be in your list.

Places To Visit In Udaipur:

1. City Palace:

It is Rajasthan's largest palace, built along the banks of Lake Pichola. The main part of the palace is open as the City Palace Museum, with ornate halls, a royal courtyard, a central garden, and the Zenana Mahal, among other things.

2. Sajjangarh Palace:

It is also known as Monsoon Palace and is located on the outskirts of Udaipur on Bansdara Mountain. Built by Maharana Sajjan Singh, it is now one of the best places from where you can see the Udaipur skyline and a panoramic city view, especially at sunset.

3. Jag Mandir:

Jag Mandir, also known as the Lake Garden Palace, is located on an island in Lake Pichola. It was once the royal family's summer retreat. The grand palace contains some impressive structures that are worth seeing. Additionally, it must be kept in mind that Jag Mandir is only accessible by boat.

4. Eklingji Temple:

Located nearly 22 kilometres from Udaipur, the Eklingji Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The most convenient way to get to this temple is to take a cab. It is one of Rajasthan's most famous temples, and it is also known for its stunning architecture.

5. Saheliyon Ki Baari:

A magnificent garden located on one of Fateh Sagar Lake's islands, Saheliyon-ki-Bari features expansive lawns, shady cool walking lanes, and imposing fountains. There is also a small museum on the premises. It is one of the best places to unwind in Udaipur.

7. Chittorgarh Fort:

Chittorgarh Fort, also known as Chittod Fort, is one of India's largest forts. The fort served as the capital of Mewar and is now located in the city of Chittorgarh. It consists of a 180-meter-high hill spread across an area of 691.9 acres above the plains of the valley drained by the Berach River. The fort encompasses 65 historic structures, including four palaces, 19 large temples, 20 large bodies of water, four memorials, and a few victory towers.

Lakes To visit In Udaipur:

1. Lake Pichola:

Udaipur's oldest and largest lake, Lake Pichola is surrounded by lofty palaces, temples, and bathing ghats. The most popular activity in Udaipur is boating on Lake Pichola. If you're coming from the City Palace, you can easily get a boat from Rameshwar Ghat. Alternatively, take a boat ride from Lal Ghat.

2. Fateh Sagar Lake:

It is a man-made lake named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar. It is one of Udaipur's four lakes, and its three islands is home to the Udaipur Solar Observatory. Boating in the Aravali Mountains is a must-do activity.

3. Jaisamand Lake:

Jaisamand Lake is a true man-made wonder that combines natural and man-made beauty. Beginning with the hilly surroundings, the two palaces, Hawa Mahal and Ruthi Rani Ka Mahal, the Jaisamand Wildlife sanctuary, and the Jaisamand Island resort- all provide an exquisite and luxurious experience. The Jaisamand Lake tends to open up a new chapter in the history of Udaipur.
