Rihanna's Red Outfit At Super Bowl 2023 Paid Tribute To Fashion Icon André Leon Talley
Rihanna's all-red ensemble appeared to be a tribute to André Leon Talley, a fashion editor and one of her closest style partners who died in January 2022.
Rihanna's spectacular appearances during her first pregnancy established unparalleled maternity fashion goals. The singer had a memorable debut at the Super Bowl 2023, reviving her unrivalled elegance, as the 34-year-old began off her performance by revealing that she's pregnant with her second child with partner A$AP Rocky. Apart from that, Rihanna's all-red costume seemed to pay tribute to fashion editor and one of her closest style partners, André Leon Talley, who died in January 2022.
The singer's all-red attire for her performance at the Super Bowl halftime show was custom-designed by Loewe and styled by Jahleel Weaver, who has worked with Rihanna on several of her memorable looks.
It was inspired by "flight gear and the show's dynamic scenography," according to the brand.
The first layer of the multi-layered attire was a vibrant red catsuit, which was topped with a made-to-measure corset in sculpted leather and a matching cotton canvas flight suit. The suit was belted below her waist, exposing her pregnancy. She finished the appearance with red sneakers and an Alaa leather puffer scarf with integrated gloves.
For the finale, she wore another Alaa item, a red leather maxi puffer coat with integrated gloves. This custom-made puffer resembled the red sleeping bag coat originally worn by late fashion star Talley.
Talley's Instagram account appreciated the honour with a side-by-side photo of Talley and Rihanna dressed similarly.
"When the sun shines, we will shine together. I told you I'd be here forever... I'll always be your friend, he said. "@badgalriri," it said.

"When we were planning our last collection, Rihanna came out to us for a few looks; I was extremely interested in her concept of Alaa," Pieter Mulier, Alaa's creative director, told Vogue. Because of what she wants to wear. And in what way? Rihanna embodies the modern woman to me. "A pure beauty".
