'Wed In India': PM Modi Urges Families To Choose Uttarakhand As Venue For 'Destination Weddings'

At the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit, PM Modi made a plea to make the state a wedding destination for India.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 2-day Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit that is being held at Forest Research Institute, Dehradun. At the ceremony, he made a plea to make the state a wedding destination for India. Talking about the number of opportunities the state has in the tourism sector, PM Modi said "This Devbhoomi is definitely going to open many doors for you. Today, Uttarakhand is a shining example of the mantra with which India is moving forward with the mantra of development as well as heritage."

He also spoke about the creation of theme-based tourist circuits intending to introduce tourists to nature as well as the heritage of India. In addition to that, PM Modi underlined that Uttarakhand which encompasses nature, culture and heritage is going to emerge as a brand.

Apart from this, PM Modi appealed to the rich, the affluent and the youth of the country to initiate the movement 'Wed in India' along the lines of 'Make in India'. He requested them to perform and organize at least one marriage ceremony in Uttarakhand in the next five years.

"In our country, it is believed that god pairs everyone, then why do those pairs go abroad to start their new journey (of married life)... Just like the 'Make in India' movement a 'Wed in India' movement should be started. At least one wedding from the family should be done in Uttarakhand as part of the destination wedding, to make Uttarakhand a destination wedding spot," he said.

"Even if 5000 weddings take place in 1 year in Uttarakhand, a new infrastructure will come into place and transform the state into a wedding destination for the world", the Prime Minister added, highlighting India’s potential to achieve any resolve that it takes.
