As the air fills with the sweet scent of incense and the twinkle of a thousand earthen lamps (diyas), there's an irresistible urge to transform our homes into a canvas of light and colour on Diwali.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is not just a celebration; it is an emotion stirred up with the blend of traditions, culture, and creativity illuminating our homes and hearts. As the air fills with the sweet scent of incense and the twinkle of a thousand earthen lamps (diyas), there's an irresistible urge to transform our homes into a canvas of light and colour. While the timeless beauty of traditional Diwali decorations never fades, there's an enchanting world of innovation waiting to be explored.

Nitu Singh, who is the Founder director at Scentiments Global Pvt Ltd shared some co-friendly decor tips for Diwali

She said, "In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the environmental impact of festivals. To make your Diwali celebrations more sustainable, consider using eco-friendly decor items. Opt for biodegradable rangoli materials, reusable clay diyas, and decorations made from recycled materials. You can even create a stunning centerpiece using potted plants and succulents, which can be kept and nurtured long after the festivities are over."

The Magic Of Earthen Lamp Masterpiece:

In this regard, Nitu Singh mentioned the following:

  • Clay Diya Mural

Create a stunning wall mural using clay diyas. Arrange them in the shape of a traditional motif, a peacock, or even spell out the word "Diwali." Paint the diyas in vibrant colours or decorate them with intricate designs. This not only adds a beautiful touch to your decor but also supports local artisans.

  • Diya Pathway

Line your walkway or garden with rows of clay diyas. To add a social touch, invite friends and family to paint and decorate these diyas together in the days leading up to Diwali. The combined effort will make your entranceway shine with warmth and community spirit.

  • Candle Wall Sconces

Mirror Decorations:

Tejpal Singh Shekhawat, who is the Founder and CEO of Kalyanam Furniture said, "Mirrors come to the fore when it comes to adorning one’s residence to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, with vibrant and luxurious décor. The reason why mirrors are so amazing is that they can reflect and intensify lights naturally, therefore, you should use them to make your Diwali decoration bright and attractive. One creative way would be to create a beautiful mirror rangoli. This rangoli design is made up of numerous small mirrors that make it not only look gorgeous but also multiply the light of diyas and candles positioned upon it. For an attractive effect, arrange the mirrors in intricate patterns or traditional motifs."

"You can also use mirror-adorned torans or door hangings as an amazing way to introduce mirrors into your Diwali decor. To make your entryway more inviting, these door decorations are often made out of vivid colours of cloth or beads and embellished with small mirrors for the light to glitter on. You can use these with mirrored chargers or placemats at the dining table. These mirrors are not only an aesthetically pleasing addition, but they also capture the flame and warmth of a traditional Diwali feast," he addded.

Arrange a group of mirror-framed tea light trays/candle sconces on your mantel or shelf for an enthralling scene. As the candles burn, the mirrors will waltz with the soft flame flickers, making the atmosphere of the room magical.

Wooden Ball Decorations:

Ridhima Kansal, who is the Director, of Rosemoore said, "Make your Diwali home decor much more sensory and delightful by adding scented wooden balls into your festive arrangement for something grand. The sweet little spheres do not only bring along a visual pleasure; they also impart a pleasing smell and make your surroundings alive with a mixed sensation that adds to the festive flavour."

"Scented wooden balls can be used in a number of creative ways, such as placing them in decorative bowls or trays which could be positioned strategically in homes. Go for Diwali-inspired scents such as warm spices, like cinnamon and cardamom, or tranquil floral fragrances, such as rose and jasmine. Arrange scented wooden balls that are meant to sit at the table centers alongside other decorative items such as candles and flower arrangements. The scented wooden balls will release their fragrance as the candles flicker and the flowers bloom and fill the room with warmth through their smell. You could also make unique garlands and wall hangings using scented wooden balls that are strung together with beads or other ornamental materials," she added.
