New Delhi: Global Family Day is celebrated annually on January 1 to kick start the year positively and promote peace, love, and unity among people. Global Family Day 2023: History
A book titled "One Day In Peace - January 1, 2000," published by the United Nations, served as the inspiration for the concept, which was first proposed in November 1997. The narrative envisions a perfect society where everyone agrees to cooperate in order to build a peaceful and happy planet Earth.
In addition, the International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World was being started at the same time by the UN General Assembly. Following this, UN members were also given the opportunity to officially observe January 1 as "Global Family Day" in 1999.
Acting on this, a yearly event was planned in 2001 and it had a significant global influence. Peace campaigner Linda Grover was instrumental in popularising the day on a global basis.
This day also coincides with the World Day of Peace which was established in 1967 and is celebrated annually by the Catholic Church.
Global Family Day 2023: Significance
Global Family Day, which is observed in January, is a time to honour families everywhere and the support and love they have to offer.
On Global Family Day, we pay tribute to the families that have taken us into their homes, provided for us when we were in need, and supported us through good times and bad. We also honour how strong family ties are and how they can get over any difficulty.
The event as a whole promotes the notion that 'Earth is a Global Family', regardless of colour, creed and race. While most of the festivities are held in the United States, Global Family Day is marked by planning events that fit the event. Additionally, some neighbourhoods organize events to unite families and promote peace and harmony.
