Uniform Civil Code: Pinarayi Vijayan Questions 'Suspicious Silence' Of Congress

Pinarayi also asked whether Congress can take a firm stand against Sangh Parivar. 

The Congress said if CPI(M) opposed UCC, it should reject the stand of Kerala's first CM Namboodiripad, former CPI(M) leader, who called for a common personal law for all its citizens.

After opposing Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan questioned the Congress party over their "suspicious silence" regarding UCC. Pinarayi also asked whether Congress can take a firm stand against Sangh Parivar. 

Pinarayi Vijayan said, "Does the @INCIndia have a clear stand on the #UniformCivilCode? Their suspicious silence is deceitful. When it is the need of the hour to resist the Sangh Parivar's attacks on India's plurality, is the INC ready to take a firm stand against them?"

“Does the Congress have a clear position and policy on it at the national level? If so, what is it? “Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, who is also a Minister in the Himachal Pradesh cabinet, has welcomed the Uniform Civil Code. Is that the official stand of the Congress,” the CM asked, as per PTI.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee chief K Sudhakaran and Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan also attacked the Left party with regards to UCC. They said that the CPI(M) was “opportunistic” and was trying to gain politically from the issue.

The Congress said if CPI(M) opposed UCC, it should reject the stand of Kerala's first CM Namboodiripad, former leader, who called for a common personal law for all its citizens.

The KPCC leader claimed that the CPI(M) in Kerala was doing the same thing by making it a Muslim-only problem and attempting to "create communal polarisation" in the state, just as the BJP was doing through the UCC.
