Kerala Minor Abduction Case: Main Accused In Police Custody, Says CM Pinarayi

On Saturday, Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed that the accused had been caught and the main accused was in police custody. 

The CM also praised the police for taking the accused into custody.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said that the state police took the main accused in the minor kidnap case into custody. Earlier this week, a six-year-old girl was kidnapped while returning home from tuition with her brother. A day later, the minor was found abandoned at a public ground in Kollam district.

On Saturday, Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed that the accused had been caught and the main accused was in police custody. 

He said, the investigation achieved a significant progress. The CM said, "The main accused are in police custody. Police will divulge further details."

Further, he praised the police for taking the accused into custody. "A remarkable investigation was carried out by the police in the case which helped take the accused into custody within a short span of time," he said, as per a report on PTI.

Vijayan also accused the Opposition Congress of critiquing the police. While the CM and the police refrained from disclosing additional details, media sources reported the involvement of a local couple and their daughter in the case.

Talking to IANS, police said, three people of a same family were taken into custody from Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu. They said the police even seized two cars and an auto rickshaw which was believed to be used in the crime. 

Five days ago, a minor girl was kidnap between 4 PM and 4.30 PM near Pooyapally area for ransom. The kidnappers immediately after abducting the girl called the minor's mother and demanded Rs 5 lakh. 

"We have collected CCTV footage from cameras in the area and are presently going through it. The vehicle used in the kidnapping is suspected to be a white sedan -- either a Honda Amaze or a Swift Dzire," the officer said.
