Kollam Doctor Death: IMA Urges Implementation Of Central Laws To Protect Healthcare Professionals

Kerala Doctor Stabbed: IMA condemned the murder and stressed the importance of taking action to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) called for the "implementation of Central laws and measures to prevent violence against healthcare professionals at their workplaces" in the wake of the murder of a doctor in Kerala by an accused brought by the police for a medical checkup. The IMA also insisted on declaring hospitals as safe zones.

In a release, Indian Medical Association (IMA) said, "IMA is deeply saddened to hear about the heinous act of murder of Dr. Vandana Das, a 22 years old House Surgeon of Azeezia Medical College posted in Government Taluk Headquarters Hospital, Kottarakara in Kollam district Kerala. She was brutally murdered by a patient while she was treating him.

IMA said: “We strongly condemn the same and want to stress the importance of taking action to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. We strongly urge the authorities to take strict action against the culprits for the heinous act and to ensure that the culprit should be punished to the fullest extent of the Law.”

The IMA also extended solidarity to medical doctors and all healthcare workers who put their lives on the line every day to provide essential medical care to those in need.

IMA also called for the implementation of Central Laws and measures to prevent violence against healthcare professionals in their workplaces and declare hospitals as safe zones.

Meanwhile, medical students, under the aegis of the House Surgeons Association, have been staging a protest to condemn the violence against doctors. They have also been raising slogans of 'Inquilab Zindabad' during the protest.
