Kerala Doctor Death: Govt To Bring Ordinance To Ensure Safety Of Healthcare Workers

The Kerala state authorities declared on Thursday that they intend to release an ordinance that would modify the laws safeguarding hospitals, thereby securing the safety of healthcare professionals and doctors. In response to the murder of 25 years old doctor Vandana Das by a man in police custody who was receiving treatment at taluk hospital in Kollam district, and the ensuing demonstrations from healthcare professionals and students, the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan made this announcement, news agency PTI reported.

In the upcoming cabinet meeting, he mentioned that the ordinance would be proposed.

Vandana Das Murder

In the early morning of Wednesday, a man who was being treated at Kottarakkara taluk hospital stabbed to death Vandana, a young doctor who was attending to him.

According to officials, a young physician, who was 25 years old, was assaulted by S Sandeep. The authorities brought Sandeep to the hospital with various injuries after he approached them, alleging that his neighbors had attacked him.

Sandeep, a 42-year-old school teacher, was reportedly brought to the emergency room while under the influence of alcohol.

On Wednesday morning, a man who was receiving medical treatment at Kottarakkara taluk hospital fatally stabbed Vandana, a young doctor.

Vandana passed away due to her injuries while being treated at a private hospital located in Thiruvananthapuram. According to the autopsy report, the deceased had sustained a total of 11 stab wounds to various parts of her body.

As per the report submitted by the state police chief to the Kerala High Court, Sandeep seized the scissors from the dressing table and assaulted Binu and Alexkutty, his neighbors and distant relatives, who were present outside the dressing room.

While receiving medical attention, he became aggressive and used a pair of scissors to attack the people in his vicinity.
