Former Karnataka CM SM Krishna Hospitalised With Acute Respiratory Tract Infection

Ex CM SM Krishna's health status is being monitored by Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna on Saturday night admitted to Manipal hospital in Bengaluru's airport road with an acute respiratory tract infection. "He is on minimal respiratory support and in a cheerful frame of mind. His health status is being monitored by health minister Dr K Sudhakar," Manipal Hospital said, in a statement, as quoted by news agency ANI.

He is under the care of a broad specialty medical team comprising Dr Satyanarayana Mysore, HOD of Pulmonology, Dr Sunil Karanth, HOD of intensive care and others.

The 90-year-old politician entered into politics in the year 1962 with the then Praja Socialist Party. Later, he joined Congress in the year 1983-84, under the leadership of Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Later, he also continued to work with Late PM Rajiv Gandhi. Before switching to Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2017, SM Krishna served as the Minister for External Affairs during 2009-12 when the UPA government was ruling at the Centre.

Besides being a Union Minister, Krishna also served as the 16th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and held the 19th Governor's post for Maharashtra between 2004 and 2008. He is also an active Rajya Sabha Member, said a Times of India report.
